Provides direct patient care in Postpartum, Nursery, or Labor and Delivery setting.
·Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses, and assessment of changes.
·Documents all activity appropriately in the Electronic Medical Record.
·Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
·Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.
·Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
·Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
·Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.
·Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all infants, adolescents, and adults and reassessments per policy.
·Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.
·Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient?s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
·Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.
·Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
·Ability to assist physicians with procedures in Postpartum, L&D, and/or Newborn Nursery.
·Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over patient life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patient population served.
·Able to interpret data about the patient?s status in order to identify each patient?s age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.
·Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in the formation of the plan of care.
Qualifications
Education:
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), Required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Preferred
Required Licenses:
Must have a current Mississippi Registered Nurse license or a current Compact State Registered Nurse license.
Required Certifications:
·Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificationrequiredwithin 90 days of hire or transfer.
·Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certificationrequiredwithin 90 days of hire or transfer.
·Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certificationrequiredwithin 90 days of hire or transfer.
·Association of Women?s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWOHNN) Certificationpreferred.
·Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certificationpreferred.
Required Skills:

·Basic computer knowledge; become proficient in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
·Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
·Demonstrates proficient time management skills.
·Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.
